OCRAMclima® enhances energy efficiency at IKEA Matosinhos with the retrofit of 22 AHUs

In April 2025, IKEA Matosinhos closed its doors for three days for technical renovations to its facilities. In terms of HVAC, the intervention with OCRAMclima® was a requirement of the Swedish brand, which sought to renovate the ventilation and air treatment systems at IKEA Matosinhos, replacing the existing equipment with solutions offering better energy performance, greater efficiency, durability and protection.

Indoor air quality in large commercial spaces

OCRAMclima® is proud to be responsible for the HVAC equipment in yet another IKEA store in Portugal, accounting for 4 of the 5 stores in the country.

A tailor-made challenge: 22 AHUs reaching up to 3.60 m in height

Large retail spaces such as IKEA stores require reliable, efficient and customised HVAC solutions. The aim is to ensure thermal and acoustic comfort, with continuous air renewal, without compromising energy sustainability.

In Matosinhos, the HVAC system was fully renovated with the installation of 22 OCRAMclima® air handling units, equipped with thermal wheels of up to 3 metres in diameter, with the largest unit reaching 3.60 metres in height.

Beyond the size and robustness of the units, the control system was also custom-developed to meet the demanding specifications of the project.
